How I Pack My Toddler Diaper Bag with JJ Cole!

JJ Cole

The diaper bag struggle is REAL for most moms!  And what kind of bag you need and more importantly what goes inside it changes as your child grows.   When you have a newborn baby there is SO much you need to pack-diapers galore, a change of clothes for the many blow outs {heck maybe even an extra top for mom}, nursing cover, butt cream, the kitchen sink…just kidding….sort of.   As kids grow older you need less and less in your diaper bag!  {Thank goodness!} I love the brand JJ Cole as their bags are fashionable, reasonably priced, and they have SO many features which are perfect for staying organized! On this blog post you will read about what I love to keep in my diaper bag for my toddler’s needs!

Here are some toddler MUST items in my JJ Cole diaper bag:

  • Diapers: 5-7 diapers for my son who isn’t potty trained
  • An extra pair of panties for my toddler girl in case of an accident
  • Wipes {You can never have too many!}
  • Snacks
  • Sippy Cups: I love Nuby’s Snack N’ Sip as it cuts down on items you need and doesn’t leak!
  • Blanket: either for keeping warm or sitting on at the park
  • Foaming Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer–can we say park germs?
  • Sunscreen
  • Toys/Play Packs: I LOVE these things!  You can pick them up at the dollar store or dollar section at Target.    They are perfect at keeping your little one busy when out to dinner.
  • Books: I like to keep a few small books that I usually pick up at the dollar store for keeping them occupied.
  • Tissues: running toddlers = runny noses
  • Band aides: for all those boo boos

I love that the lining of the JJ Cole diaper bag is colored!  It makes it so easy to find items inside.  Its also important to find a diaper bag that opens up wide like this one does.   I have another bag that does not open very well and it is so hard to find anything inside.

This morning we were off to take photos with the Easter bunny-I always like to go early and beat the crowds.   I love that this JJ Cole Diaper Bag-Caprice style in gray is in a neutral color and is great to match spring fashion!

I feel really excited that my life timeline of being a mom is the same timeline of fashion. Don’t you just love that MOM JEANS are back!  High waists are just in style to hide all my mommy imperfections.   The same thing with one piece bathing suits-but that’s a whole other post.

When picking a diaper bag, you want to make sure that it is versatile. I love that this JJ Cole Caprice bag has an arm strap, shoulder strap, and had hidden straps that you can attach that will make the bag fit perfectly on a stroller!

The front of the JJ Cole bag is perfect for mommy’s stuff-it even has a slot for your wallet, phone, and cards! I like that there is also a smaller pocket perfect to keep your keys.

I like that the JJ Cole Caprice diaper bag has two side pockets-perfect for drinks-and a large back pocket.   It also comes with a changing pad that can easily be wiped clean or washed.  This bag is also nice that it has SO much room!  You could probably stuff it with so many things.  I am such a minimalist so I only like to bring the essentials, but I will totally be using this bag as a carry on for our up coming family vacation.

Light weight enough to make my two year old carry some stuff!  Hey its mostly hers anyways right? Jk.

Here is where you can get your JJ Cole Diaper Bag perfect for spring! What is your favorite diaper bag item?

Teething Necklaces 101: A Redlocks Review

teething-neckalces

I am not gonna to lie, before trying out teething necklaces I was never really a fan.  Whenever I would see moms out and about holding their cute innocent child then to catch a glimpse of  realness- that cute innocent child was actually a drooling baby who was gnawing on their mom’s necklace.  The sight kind of creeped me out at first…until I became a mother to a teething baby and tired one!  Its true what they say about parenting-never judge others.   That was the pre-teething-momma’s views, now I will do anything to help sooth my little ones gums and keep me from getting my shoulder, hair, or outfit gnawd on, soaked, and tangled! Redlocks and Shamrocks is bringing you Redlocks Review on the Nuby Teething Jewelry!*

img_9415

Nuby carries three styles of teething jewelry seen in this photo in various colors such as grey, blue, navy, and pink.   They are all made of soft silicone to provide stimulation to gums and emerging teeth.

img_9356

The first time trying out teething necklaces I was trying to get ready for a friend’s bridal shower.   Of course, I was running late, trying to put on mascara, and my baby wanted to be held-the second I set him down he would cry.   As a mom of two I have mastered the-do anything with one hand skill-but my little boy kept grabbing at my mascara!  I threw on the teething jewelry on a whim and it kept him entertained while I finished getting ready.

The soft textured surface was safe for him to tug, touch, and teethe verses everything else in arms reach on my bathroom counter or on me!

img_9473

My weekend mom warrior look consists of workout clothes-even though I rarely get the chance to hit the gym these days.  Isn’t it a workout chasing your toddler around the park and lifting two kids in and out of car seats to go grocery shopping right?

This design of Nuby Teething Jewelry has a more casual look to it with the black ribbon tying in with my ‘workout’ mom style.  Plus my baby can easily grasp the round disk shape.

This little guy had a blast walking around our neighborhood and going to the grocery store with this compact ‘toy’ strapped around my neck.

img_9668

All of the teething jewelry features a plastic clasp for fastening and added security making wearing and taking off a snap! The flat disk style of Nuby Teething Jewelry also comes in a dark navy.  My personal style tends to be more minimalist jewelry not statement pieces so I went with the neutral gray again.

I keep this one in my diaper bag to throw on anywhere-in this case the park-when my baby getting the terrible teething tingles!   One thing I like about Nuby teething necklaces verses other brands is the price is right!  Teething necklaces should be functional and cute but not break the bank-this isn’t Tiffany’s jewelry!  All styles of the Nuby Teeth Jewelry are of course 100% Silicone, BPA free, and available now on  Amazon!

Easy Family Halloween Costumes

familyhalloween

This Redlocks and Shamrocks girl is OBSESSED with Halloween!  I absolutely love getting dressed up and planning Halloween costumes.   Even as a little girl I would sketch out my costume ideas months in advance and mail them across the country to my grandmother who would make my dreams come true delivering me one of a kind costumes.   While in college I would hand make my -too revealing-costumes.   I love to SEMI-hand make costumes!  Here are a few EASY family costume ideas this this Halloween season!

Two years ago for my daughter’s first Halloween we went as a fruity family-a strawberry, a banana, and a pineapple! I got her costume on sale at Carter’s, we got my husband’s banana costume off of Amazon, and I threw my costume together with a pineapple dress and made my headpiece out of scrapbook paper, a toilet paper roll, an old headband, and a ton of hot glue.

The following year I was pregnant with my son and my daughter found her love for Elmo hence the Sesame Street costumes!

These were very easy to make!  For my husband’s Cookie Monster costume I bought an inexpensive blue hoodie, made cookies out of felt and puff paint, then glued on eyeballs made from styrofoam spheres and felt!   My VERY Big Bird costume was mainly purchased and jazzed up with a yellow feather boa and then I made feet out of felt.   For Logan’s Elmo costume I dyed a onesie red and glued on Elmo’s face out of felt.  I made her almost no-sew tutu and made her a simple headband with sequins and a fluffy boa.

This year for Halloween we decided to go as classic Halloween characters- a witch, a black cat, Dr. Frankenstein and his monster!  My two year old, after reading the book Room on the Broom, became obsessed with witches so we went with that theme.  img_9147img_9158img_9151

Our costumes for Halloween 2016 are half bought, half made by me!   I really like semi home making Halloween costumes.  I feel that it makes costumes more original and softer for kids to wear because store bought costumes are usually made our of cheep itchy material.

Logan’s Witchy Look:

Logan’s witch costume was mainly bought from Amazon and the Dollar Tree!  Yes!  The Dollar Tree!   I jazzed up the store bought items with ribbon and made a almost no-sew tutu.

Tights and Leotard: Amazon

Shoes: Target sold here

Hat {Jazzed up with ribbon by me}, Broom, Witch Nose, Feather Boa: Dollar Tree

Tutu: Made by me.

Mommy’s Black Cat Look:

For my mommy Halloween look I like to be comfortable as well as find things I already own to wear.   Some parents don’t dress up for the holiday, but come on don’t be a Grinch!  You don’t have to go crazy to be festive.  I tried to do cute cat make up, but this is not a beauty blog because this girl sucks at fancy makeup! It was a mom fail and was washed off quickly.  lol

And how fun are these super cute cat socks!

Black Dress:  Forever 21..under 16 dollars!  Sold here

Cat Ears: Forever 21… under 4 bucks! Sold here

Boa: Dollar Tree

Cat Socks: Amazon

Shoes: Steve Madden

Kohen and Daddy’s Dr. Frankenstein and FrankenBABY Monster Look:

Who doesn’t love Frankenstein for Halloween!  One common mistake on Halloween is people think the green faced creature is named Frankenstein.  This English teacher knows the classic Mary Shelley novel and ‘Frankenstein’ is actually Victor Frankenstein the mad scientist who created a monster.  🙂 There is your short lesson for the day.   Any-who…. I love these two and their simple costumes!

Dad’s Lab Coat and Wig: Amazon

Dr Head Mirror:  Made by me out of tin foil, cardboard, a headband, and of course hot glue!

Kohen’s Shirt: Target {on clearance, under 5 dollars!} I jazzed it up with puff paint and felt patches.

Kohen’s hat: Etsy sold here {I’m not THAT talented to make it myself lol}

Simple baby costumes are key.  The first year with Logan’s puffy strawberry costume was so cute, but it wasn’t practical.   The costume had to be taken off for her to fit in the car seat and WHO thought tights were good for quick diaper changes?  I wanted to keep Kohen’s costume simple and warm so a beanie, shirt, pant combo was perfect!

We will definitely be getting our money’s worth out of our costumes this year as for many trunk-or-treats and Halloween festivities wears! Have a fun and save Halloween this year Redlocks and Shamrocks readers!

Redlocks & Shamrocks Fashion Post: Flirty Floral!

My husband and I rarely get date nights, except for our nightly ‘kids in bed dessert date’ on the couch.   Because of life, work, and the dreaded flu taking out the whole Doyle fam one by one we even celebrated our anniversary OVER a month late!   We FINALLY got a date night to celebrate year three which gave me a reason to finally put makeup on!  When Logan saw me all dressed she even sad, “Wow mommy pretty-like a princess” which made me feel like a million bucks!  For this look I shopped at one of my favorite online stores, Lulus!   As a busy mom of two under two I do 95% of my shopping ONLINE!   What takes more effort-opening a site during nap time or loading up two kids in Las Vegas 100 degree weather to speed shop through a store???  Needless to day I consider myself an expert online shopper.  I have a few sites I love that offer free shipping both ways, Lulus is one of them!    Check out my anniversary date night look-a fun and flirty floral print dress, tied with shoes with a pop of color, and my favorite dirty hair do-a dutch braid!

I love fashion and getting dressed up, I am a true girly girl, however you won’t see too many fashion posts on the blog because my daily look is top knot, workout clothes, accessorized with spit up…ekkk
